Retailer in the United Kingdom wished to improve the performance of its employees

The ProfileXT in use by an a retailer in the U.K.

Background

A retailer in the United Kingdom wished to improve the performance of its employees through better hiring practices. The firm turned to Profiles International for assistance in determining the relationship between employee productivity and key job-related traits, interests, and abilities in order to enable them to effectively select top performers.

Participants

The study was comprised of 43 employees. Each employee completed the ProfileXT and had their performance evaluated by the supervisors at the company. Analyses of these performance evaluations revealed ten top performing employees and nine bottom performers.

Performance Model

In a concurrent study format using the employees' PXT scores, a Performance Model was created that best reflected the competencies and characteristics associated with the top performing employees. This pattern now serves as the benchmark to which employment candidates may be matched.

Performance Grouping

All 43 employees were matched against the new Performance Model. An examination of the Job Match Percent indicated a benchmark of 65% or greater best described the top performing employees. This Job Match Percent serves as the benchmark for representing a good match to the position.

This study demonstrated the pattern efficiently identifies top performers:

  • Top performers correctly identified as top performers by the pattern: 9 of 10
  • Bottom performers incorrectly identified as top performers by this pattern: 2 of 9

Of the 43 participants in the study, 23 achieved a Job Match Percent of 65% or higher. In addition, nine of the ten top performing employees, as identified by the performance evaluations, met or exceeded the mark while only two of the nine bottom performers met the same mark.

Summary

Using the ProfileXT to benchmark employees, this electronic games retailer has the ability to successfully identify the key job related traits, interests, and abilities to more efficiently screen Account Associate candidates in the future. Of the 23 employees who either met or exceeded the Job Match Pattern benchmark, only two were identified as bottom performers. Additionally, 90% of the top performers (9 of 10) achieved a Job Match Percent at or above the benchmark. Selection practices were improved by using the Performance Model created using the ProfileXT.
